NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF INVENTION
Having spent 10 years as the Founder and face of Pit Barrel Cooker Co., Noah Glanville has had more than his share of experience preparing, cooking and serving food. But the demands of any barbecue-style cooking start well before and end long after the meat is in the cooker, and a hearty prep and cutting surface is vital to a successful cook. Having tried many but unable to find one that satisfied every need, the quest to make the perfect cutting board began.
Over one year, dozens of saw blades, sanding blocks, and countless prototypes later, EndGrain was born.
Premium grade, premium cut
Responsibly sourcing the highest quality local walnut and maple near its Louisville, KY headquarters was priority one, but a close second was how that wood was cut and assembled. The term “end grain” refers to the surface produced from a cross section of the tree’s trunk, as opposed to “face grain” which is wood cut lengthwise.
EndGrain is not only cherished for its rich and unique visual character, but also its superior durability. It's highly resistant to wear, and also easier on knife blades and self-healing, as the cut fibers tend to reclose over time. Ultimately, the superiority of end grain made it not only the easy choice for the boards’ composition, but also the obvious choice for the brand’s name.
Form, meet function
With the finest materials checked off the list, function and design were next up and equally, if not more, important. Every detail and function of the board was carefully considered; from the specific sizes to meet different cooking and serving needs, to the innovative sloping juice channel with easy-pour spillway, to the ergonomics of the handles and profile, to make sure that it performs as well as it looks. The boards were also designed to be great cutting surfaces on one side, and show-stopping serving platters on the other.
In short, everything just works. Like any good design, the best parts often go unnoticed, but you'll never want to use another cutting board again.
ABOVE AND BEYOND
The construction of a best-in-class product requires the finest precision machinery and craftsmanship, so EndGrain enlisted a team of skillfully trained woodworkers using the most technologically advanced equipment to ensure that each board is made to laser-precise specifications.
Industry standards? They’re just that: a set of standards which products are required to meet in order to be competitively sold on the market. As you might expect by now, those standards quickly became the floor rather than the ceiling. Each board bearing the EndGrain brand is required to exceed those standards, beginning with the harvesting of the wood and continuing every step of the way to your countertop.
